Whey Protein vs. Plant Based Protein

When I tell people that I use a vegan protein made with pea protein, brown rice protein and cranberry protein, they always ask either one of two things: “So, are you vegan then?” or “Why not use whey protein?”. No, I am not vegan I just use plant based protein, and I don’t use whey for many reasons. Here is a breakdown of whey vs. plant based protein:

Whey Protein

Whey protein is a processed, packaged product. It’s a byproduct of the dairy industry, removed after being processed. If it’s processed with heat, the proteins can be denatured (not good). Whey’s benefits don’t apply if you’re lactose intolerant or have a milk protein allergy because your body has a hard time digesting and absorbing it. Many people are lactose intolerant and whey, being a by-product of milk, contains lactose. This causes bloating, gas, digestion issues, and sometimes even weight gain! No Bueno, right?? Most whey protein is simply a vehicle for sugars, sweeteners, and artificial flavorings. 99% of whey powders contain additives that are designed to make it more flavorful…. If you steer clear of that type of stuff in your normal diet, why are you allowing it in your protein shakes??

Plant Based Protein

Not all plant based protein shakes are going to do the trick. Many lack the amount or type of protein needed to get you your desired results. And most taste horrible! Seriously terrible. I have a hard time choking them down. BUT, plant proteins are loaded with fiber, vitamins, and minerals and, because plant proteins are easier to digest and assimilate, you will reach your desired results without all of the side effects from whey. I have personally tried about 10 different plant based proteins, and my all-time favorite (even before I became a consultant) was Arbonne because the first thing I noticed is they taste AMAZING! But there are many other benefits to using the Arbonne shakes.

Arbonne’s Plant Based Protein

To keep it short and sweet, my case for Arbonne’s plant based protein resides in that they are easily digestible, overall healthier and NATURAL, which means no artificial flavors, sweeteners, or chemicals. I choose Arbonne for me and my whole family (even my toddler gets it in his milk when he needs a protein boost) because both my husband and I have found that our bodies respond best to what Arbonne has to offer. We are both athletes - me not so much right now in my 8th month of pregnancy but my hubby is an avid crossfitter who is trying to build muscle mass and these shakes have made a world of difference in what results we see. No more bloating and digestion issues for us! Plus, the Arbonne shakes are loaded with vitamins and nutrients to help you see your desired results. And the best part for me – they taste AMAZING!! I sometimes have a shake when I am craving dessert it is that good. Here are some of the benefits the Arbonne shakes boast:

  • 20 grams of vegan protein to help you feel fuller longer
  • Gluten-free
  • Fructose-free
  • Dairy-free and suitable for lactose-intolerant individuals
  • Helps boost energy
  • Use as part of your diet to help retain a healthy blood sugar level
  • Support healthy post-meal blood glucose levels that are already in the normal range
  • Diabetic-friendly protein shake mix with a low glycemic index, which has little effect on blood sugar levels
  • Does not cause a spike in blood sugar

Can your protein powder claim all of that? These shakes are so nutrient dense; you can use it as a recovery from a hard workout or as a meal replacement if you are looking for weight loss or weight management.
